Sakura-Dama (桜玉)

 

This is a cherry-blossom ball, called “Sakura-Dama”. The design represents a bouquet of full-blooming cherry blossoms. It is made of thirty pieces of special Japanese folding paper. Each piece of paper forms two petals facing opposite directions, sixty petals in all. Five petals are facing the same direction form a blossom. The sixty petals become twelve blossoms. This ball is a sample of modern origami.
